Meet Jill & Lisa
We’re the sisters behind Hygge In a Box and we’re so excited to share our passion for hygge with you.
We grew up together on the Canadian prairies and have been close our entire lives.
Unknowingly, we first embarked on our journey towards a hygge-inspired life as young girls on family ski trips, long winding road trips, and cozy nights drinking hot chocolate in front of a wood burning fireplace. Our love of spending time together as a family flourished when we started our own families and began new traditions like Friday night family dinners and long evenings in the hot tub or even camping in the beautiful wilderness around Manitoba. We have both continued to seek these moments throughout our lives whether during a s’mores filled family bonfire at the lakeside cabin, a long hike in the woods, a fishing excursion, horseback riding along a scenic mountain top or finding a quaint bed & breakfast when travelling.
For us, hygge is more than a cup of tea in front of a fire – it’s a choice to embrace the moments in life, whether big or small, that have meaning in their simplicity and comfort. In our day and age, we are always rushing from one thing to the next and we forget to slow down in order to enjoy the good things in life. We believe that most of us would agree that feeling happy, being mindful and living a life with intention is a great recipe to feeling contentment within our own lives.
This is why we decided to start Hygge in a Box! To offer busy, and at times stressed-out people, with some special treats to help them find a break from their hectic lives and enjoy some much needed ‘me time’ … hygge time.
The items you’ll receive have been carefully selected with some strict guidelines to ensure you are receiving only premium level products and ones to feel good about! It’s important to us that we support as many Canadian businesses as possible and give back to the great country we live in. We ensure that our products are as natural as possible, made with sustainability in mind, organic when available, from ethical and Fairtrade sources and ones made with love by the makers. In deciding if we should offer monthly or seasonal boxes, we decided to offer larger sized seasonal boxes packed with hygge inspired items along with hygge tips, recipes and DIY projects to be enjoyed until the next season arrives.
We may not have a Scandinavian heritage, however, we are Canadians living in one of the coldest Provinces! We are all too familiar to know what long dark winters and short beautiful summers are like and know what it means to get the most out of each passing season. We wanted to thank the Danish and other Nordic countries that have brought the concept of hygge into our world. So,tak skal du have (thank you in Danish)!
